The Lucknow Super Giants were founded in 2017 as one of the newest teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Adani Group owns the franchise, based in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, and plays its home matches at the newly-built Ekana International Cricket Stadium.
Despite being a relatively new team in the IPL, the Lucknow Super Giants have had some notable achievements in their short history. In their debut season in 2022, they finished as runners-up after losing to the Chennai Super Kings in the final. The team’s top performers included Maxwell, who scored 523 runs and took 10 wickets, and Kumar, who claimed 21 in 17 matches. The Super Giants will look to build on their success and bring home the IPL trophy in the upcoming seasons.
As the squad seeks to get things started and leave their imprint in their inaugural IPL season, the fans of the Lucknow Super Giants, the IPL’s newest franchise, will place their expectations on this man. KL Rahul, one of the best batters of the contemporary period, was selected by LSG in a draft and became their skipper. Rahul, who previously led Punjab Kings, will now have a different group of players at his command, but he still intends to lead by example and get the most out of his new colleagues. KL Rahul has scored more than 3200 runs in the IPL. His most recent first-season run totals were 626, 670, 593, and 659. The most points ever scored by an Indian batter in the IPL belong to the stylish but deadly right-hander. He has been an Indian’s cornerstone squad in all competitions, and when he steps onto the pitch for LSG, that will not change.

Manan Vohra is a talented top-order batter from Punjab who has amassed runs ever since he started playing age-group cricket. Manan, a part of the Umnukt Chand-coached Under-19 World Cup champions, was signed by Kings XI Punjab in 2013 and scored an unbeaten 43 on his début. He hit a career-high 95 against SRH in the IPL 2017. Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased Manan for INR 1.1 crore at the 2018 IPL Player Auction, but the team later dismissed him. The Rajasthan Royals hired him for the IPL 2019 season at a wage of INR 20 crore, and he was returned for the IPL 2020 season. Manan will be anxious to stand out as a member of the new IPL team, LSG.

Quinton de Kock, one of the most exciting wicketkeeper-batsmen in world cricket, will now be a member of the LSG squad after playing for the franchise for INR 6.75 Crore in the TATA IPL 2022 auction. He previously played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and the five-time IPL Champions Mumbai Indians. The left-handed batsman enjoys taking the ball away from the bowlers, and his powerful striking helps his batting teammates and places pressure on the opponents. His work and shape will be crucial to LSG’s success.

Nicholas Pooran, the explosive southpaw wicketkeeper-batsman from Trinidad, is a force to be reckoned with. His ability to quickly hit the ball out of the park makes him a valuable asset to any team. He debuted for Trinidad Red Steel at 16 and became the youngest player to feature in CPL. Despite facing a severe car accident that kept him out of the game for two years, Pooran made a stunning comeback to cricket, displaying his hard-hitting skills in various T20 leagues worldwide. He made his international comeback in 2019 and scored his maiden ODI hundred against Sri Lanka in the same year. Pooran was awarded a central contract by West Indies for his consistent performances and was named captain of the team for shorter formats in 2022 after Pollard’s retirement.

With the Rajasthan Royals, Deepak Hooda made his Indian Premier League start. The young man, who has developed a character as a strong cricket ball attacker, has recently been involved with the Sunrisers. The club recognizes the youngster’s soft off-spinners and hard-hitting later down the line, and they see some promise in him. Hooda, who recently made his Team India début, previously played for RR, SRH, and Punjab Kings before joining LSG for INR 5.75 Crore. He has a track record of effectively batting out a test and can assist the team in getting back on track if early wickets fall. The LSG batting squad will be stable in the 2022 season if he strikes at the right moment.

All-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham, who last year became the most costly unknown Indian Player in IPL history, will now play for LSG, who paid INR 90 Lac for him. K Gowtham has demonstrated that he can help with bat and ball when given an opportunity in the IPL and, more so, in domestic cricket for several years, although he did not get any playing time last season. He wants to make a lasting impression in the TATA IPL 2022.

With the ball in possession or the bat, the Senior Pandya sibling is never out of the game. If not, he ensures he still contributes on the ground. Krunal, who helped Mumbai win their third championship in 2017, has gained self-assurance and a talent for delivering under duress. He demonstrated this on the night of the final in 2017. In the 2020 campaign, Krunal scored the game-winning runs to help MI capture their fifth championship. Despite leaving MI after being acquired by LSG for INR 8.25 Crore, he will still be an essential player for the new IPL participant. He will be expected to play the dual role of bolstering the middle order while also scooping up wickets with his left-arm spin.

Romario Shepherd, a promising all-rounder from Guyana, caught the eye of Windies selectors after impressive performances for his country and West Indies A. Making his debut in 2016, he immediately announced himself by being named Player of the Match, taking three wickets in his first List A game. Shepherd’s death bowling and power-hitting abilities shone through in the Caribbean Premier League, where he emerged as the second-highest wicket-taker in 2021 with 18 wickets in just 9 games. Despite not cementing his place in the Windies team initially, he made an impact with his all-around skills against Pakistan after the T20 World Cup 2021. Shepherd has the edge over others with his ability to take wickets and score crucial runs.

The rise of Indian fast bowlers has been remarkable, and Yudhvir Singh is one of the newest additions to this trend. Born in Jammu on September 13, 1997, he made his T20 and first-class debut for Hyderabad in 2019 before returning to his home state to play for Jammu and Kashmir in 2021. He caught the eye of the Mumbai franchise with some impressive performances in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and was signed by Lucknow for the 2023 Indian T20 League. With limited experience, Yudhvir sees this as a chance to develop his game and progress in his career.

In the T20 game, leg spinners are incredibly popular, and youthful Ravi Bishnoi has what it takes to become the next big spinner. He made his IPL debut after being selected by Punjab Kings for a staggering INR 2 crore at the auction a few seasons ago. The sum is sufficient to gauge the interest he generated among different franchises, and given his recent performances for Team India, it’s evident that he has the potential to succeed. Unsurprisingly, LSG selected him and KL Rahul to play for their team even before the TATA IPL 2022 sale. He can confuse opponents by turning the projectile. But when it comes to bowling under duress, Bishnoi has also demonstrated a giant heart. The youthful Player hopes to capitalize on a promising start to his career and stand out in the TATA IPL 2022.

Amit Mishra, the leg-spinner, made a stunning start to his Test career in 2008, filling in for the injured Anil Kumble against Australia and taking 5-71. Additionally, he established himself in the Indian T20 League for Delhi and Hyderabad with his well-disguised googly and leg-break deliveries. Mishra became India’s first-choice spinner after Kumble’s retirement but has sometimes needed more consistency. However, he showed his worth in the recent World T20, taking 10 wickets in 6 matches and winning two consecutive Man of the Match awards. Despite pressure from other spinners, Mishra remains one of India’s best leg spinners.

Born in war-torn Afghanistan, Naveen-ul-Haq Murid escaped as a refugee to Pakistan, where he pursued his passion for cricket. Despite his unorthodox bowling style, Naveen has been recognized as a T20 specialist, following in the footsteps of his fellow Afghan cricketers. He made his mark at the U-16 level and led Afghanistan’s U19 team to the semi-finals in the 2018 World Cup. His impressive international performance earned him spots in T20 leagues worldwide, including the Indian T20 League, where he was picked up by the Lucknow franchise for the 2023 season. Naveen’s emergence as a talented pace bowler adds to Afghanistan’s growing reputation as a cricketing force to be reckoned with.
