History:
Royal Challengers Bangalore was founded in 2008 and has participated in each IPL season. Although the team has yet to be able to lift the prestigious cup, it has always been a strong contender in the tournament. United Spirits owned the team and were initially led by Rahul Dravid. In the inaugural season, they reached the finals but lost to Rajasthan Royals. However, they could not replicate their success in the following seasons.
Over the years, Royal Challengers Bangalore has always been a fan favorite due to their star players’ explosive and charismatic performances. They are popularly known as the ‘Red Army’ due to their red and golden-yellow jersey color.

Royal Challengers Bangalore has always been stacked with some of the biggest names in the cricketing world. Some of the notable players who have played for the team are:
- Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli is the first player in IPL history to score 6000 runs. He achieved this milestone during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s ten-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on April 22, 2021. He has scored 6021 runs in 196 matches with five hundred and 40 fifties.
- Chris Gayle: Chris Gayle is one of the most destructive batsmen in T20 cricket history. He has scored 4950 runs in 139 IPL matches with six hundred and 31 fifties. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2017 and then again in 2019 and 2020.
- AB de Villiers: AB de Villiers is one of the most versatile batsmen in the world. He has scored 5056 runs in 176 IPL matches with three hundred and 40 fifties. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2011 to 2018 and then again from 2020 to the present.
- Anil Kumble: Anil Kumble is a former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest spin bowlers ever. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008 to 2010. He took 45 wickets in 42 matches for RCB with an economy rate of 6.57.
- Dale Steyn: Dale Steyn is a former South African cricketer and one of the greatest fast bowlers ever. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008 to 2010 and then again in 2019 and 2020. He took 27 wickets in 28 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore with an economy rate of 6.72.
- Zaheer Khan: Zaheer Khan is a former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest left-arm fast bowlers ever. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2008 to 2010. He took 21 wickets in 22 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore with an economy rate of 7.75.
- Yuvraj Singh: Yuvraj Singh is a former Indian cricketer and one of the greatest all-rounders ever. He played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014. He scored 376 runs in 14 matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore with two fifties.
These players have brought glory to the team and changed the course of the game with their performances.
Achievements
One of the most reliable teams in the league has been RCB. IPL history, reaching the finals three times (in 2009, 2011, and 2016). They have also made it to playoffs in many seasons but have yet to be able to clinch the title. The 2016 season was perhaps their most successful, as they finished runners-up in a closely contested final. The team has also set various records in IPL histories, such as the highest team score, highest individual score, and most sixes in a season.

On March 12, 2022, Virat Kohli, the outgoing Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, announced that he would hand the reins over to Faf du Plessis, who would take over as the team’s next captain. For Faf du Plessis, who will represent the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the league’s 2022 season, it will be a completely new structure and team color scheme. The Royal Challengers Bangalore paid INR 7 crore for the veteran South African hitter at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction. Faf du Plessis began playing for the CSK in the IPL and has kept doing so. By hitting 86 runs off 59 deliveries in the league’s Finals of the 2021 season, the right-handed hitter played a crucial role and was named Player of the Match.
2018, Punjab Kings purchased Faf for INR 1.6 crore, but CSK beat them by utilizing their RTM card, making it a great deal for them. As a result of his steady performances for CSK, du Plessis was able to have a very successful debut season, amassing 398 runs, although he did not frequently play for the RPS team, where he was selected in the IPL player draft. He was impressed with a half-century on his ODI debut against India and soon landed a spot in the 2011 World Cup roster for South Africa. Patidar wasn’t purchased in the IPL Player Auction for 2022. Later, Patidar was acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for INR 20 Lakhs to fill in for the injured Luvnith Sisodia during the middle of the season. Patidar scored a match-winning knock of 112* (54) on May 25, 2022, in the matchup against Lucknow Super Giants Indian Premier League’s Eliminator game. As the first uncapped player to score a century in the Indian Premier League playoffs, Patidar’s innings proved record-breaking.
In addition, he tied Wridhiman Saha’s record of a 49-ball In the 2014 IPL Finals, a century was scored by the Kings XI Punjab (now the Punjab Kings) as the playoff stage’s joint-fastest century by a player (49 balls). A century and two half-centuries helped Patidar finish in just 333 runs throughout the 2022 season games for an average of 55.50. Royal Challengers Bangalore kept him on before the 2023 Indian Premier League.

The left-handed hitter made his Delhi team’s First-Class debut against Assam. In the game, Rawat, batting at No. 7, hit 71 off 147 balls while hitting seven fours and one six. With two centuries and three half-centuries, the 22-year-old scored 925 runs from 19 First-Class games at an average of 34.25. Young Anuj is a good investment for the Royal Challengers Bangalore since he can finish games and has excellent batting skills. The Rajasthan Royals purchased Anuj Rawat earlier in 2021.

In terms of wicket-keeper batters, Dinesh Karthik is among the most skilled. In 2018 under his leadership, the Kolkata Knight Riders made the playoffs, while in 2019, his team came in sixth in the standings. Dinesh Karthik was released by KKR before the league’s 2022 season and made himself available for the IPL Mega Auction. For INR 5.5 crore, Royal Challengers Bangalore purchased him. Karthik has competed in every IPL season since the league’s inception in 2008 and is a seasoned campaigner.
After being acquired by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a hefty Rs 10.5 crore in 2015, this will be Karthik’s second tenure with the team. In his IPL career, the wicket-keeper batter has played for six teams. Before joining Kings XI Punjab in 2011, he began his career with the Delhi Daredevils. Before returning to Delhi in 2014, he played the next two seasons with the Mumbai Indians. He was purchased by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2015, and after playing for Gujarat Lions in 2016 and 2017, he spent four seasons with KKR. His 4046 runs demonstrate his importance at a strike rate of 129.72 in the IPL and his neatness behind the stumps.

The youthful player, who hit a hat trick in the just-completed 2021 T20 World Cup, was the target of RCB’s ferocious support. During India’s limited-overs series visit to Sri Lanka in July 2021, the 24-year-old all-rounder made an impression, particularly with the ball. Hasaranga finished that series ranked second among T20I bowlers in the ICC rankings.
Adam Zampa was replaced in the IPL 2021 by the Sri Lankan all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga. From Sri Lanka’s U-19 team, Wanindu was immediately selected for the senior men’s team. Wanindu is a powerful middle-order batsman who is proficient in using his leggings.
